CBI - Evaluation of the Superintendent
The Falmouth School Board will evaluate the performance of the Superintendent as a regular and scheduled activity. The primary purposes of the evaluation are to provide strong leadership and management for the school unit; to strengthen the working relationship and communication between the Board and Superintendent; to assist the Board in judging the effectiveness of the Superintendent’s performance; and to assist the Board in reviewing issues associated with the Superintendent’s employment. The Board will use policy CB-A - Job Description Superintendent of Schools to complete the evaluation process.

Gathering Information for the Annual Review:

Each Board member will be asked to submit an individual written assessments to the Chair, using the Superintendent evaluation form, and provide supporting comments with specific examples related to conduct and/or performance. This evaluation form should be reviewed annually before the beginning of the evaluation process and updated as needed. |

Presenting the Evaluation:

The Board will meet in executive session with the Superintendent to discuss the composite evaluation summary, relevant issues that may not be specifically included on the evaluation form, and to allow for discussion with and feedback from the Superintendent. When feedback identifies issues or concerns, they should be addressed, as part of the evaluation and goal setting. The review meeting should also include a discussion about received feedback related to current year goals and standards as well as goals and standards for the next year. The Superintendent will have an opportunity to draft written comments for attachment to the final evaluation summary. |

The Board will meet in executive session to review and revise as needed the final composite evaluation and materials related to the Superintendent’s performance. The final composite evaluation should include a discussion of strengths as well as areas identified for improvement. The Superintendent shall be excluded from this session unless invited by the Board. |

The Chair will meet with the Superintendent to provide the Superintendent with and discuss the final composite evaluation. |
*The above timeline is recommended, however, given other school board business, the dates may be flexible. The entire evaluation shall be finalized by the June business meeting.

Matters related to compensation, benefits, contract, and other employment related items:

The Board will meet in executive session to discuss issues such as compensation, benefits, extension of contract, and other matters which are directly related to the Superintendent’s employment. The Superintendent shall be excluded from this session unless invited by the Board. |

The Board will meet with the Superintendent in executive session to review decisions on compensation, benefits, extension of contract and other matters relevant to the Superintendent’s employment. |
