IF - Curriculum Development

Rapid social change, technological development, and expansion of knowledge are facts of contemporary life. Public education must respond appropriately. Therefore, it is imperative that individual schools, the school system as a whole, and the Board continuously review and evaluate existing programs and practices, and adjust, modify, or change them as found advantageous in effectively meeting the needs of students and the expectations of the community. Therefore:

  1. The Board expects the administration and faculty to be sensitive to changing conditions that may require changes in curriculum.

  2. The Board expects that each subject area will develop a curriculum that is coordinated K-12 where appropriate.

  3. The Board expects the school system to undertake curriculum evaluation and revision to meet the needs of all children on an ongoing basis and will provide professional development and release time as necessary.

  4. The Board will hear regular reports on district programs and ongoing curriculum study and revision.

  5. Staff curriculum committees or task forces to study particular subjects shall be appointed when appropriate.

  6. The Superintendent and Director of Learning shall provide leadership and direction in achieving instructional goals. The principals (or their designee) will be responsible for the design, development, implementation, and monitoring of curriculum in their buildings.
