The 2023-2024 school year was full of amazing concerts, a variety of festivals, and so much fun. Check out all the hard work our students and staff put into these events in our 2023-2024 Music Newsletter.
Music Curriculum and Offerings
Elementary School
Students in Kindergarten through 4th grade attend one 45 minute General Music class during each 5 day rotation. Students explore their singing voices, play classroom percussion instruments and Orff instruments, move to music, read simple rhythmic and melodic notation, and make musical connections.
Chorus (Grades 4 & 5 - no audition required) and Small Group Chorus (Grades 4 & 5 - audition required) practice before school throughout the year to prepare for the Winter Concert, the All Schools Choral Concert (students only and held during the school day), and the Spring concert.
Students in 5th grade have the option of joining the FES Band or continuing with General Music during the Unified Arts block of the regular school day. Band students also have a weekly sectional held before the school day.

Middle School
All students Grades 6-8 participate in general music, band, and/or chorus throughout the school year. Band opportunities include Concert Band, Jazz Band, and the Iron Twinkies Jazz Band. Chorus and an a cappella group are offered at FMS. Band and chorus groups practice during and before school to prepare for three school concerts a year as well as regional and state competitions.

High School
Music offerings at the high school include a variety of year-long and semester courses, building on previous ensemble experiences, as well as a diversity of courses that do not require prerequisites. Instrumental Offerings: Concert Band, Jazz Band*, Small Jazz Ensembles*; Vocal Offerings: a capella ensemble*, Concert Choir, Chamber Singers*, Finding My Singing Voice, Jazz Singers*, Musical Theater; Other Music Offerings: Audio Engineering, Guitar, Music Theory, Songwriting, and Steel Drums.
Students perform in school concerts and often compete in regional and state competitions. FHS students may apply for Tri-M, a National Honor Society for music, and are eligible for a Performing-Fine Arts Diploma Endorsement.

K to 12 Music
Falmouth School District offers a comprehensive Kindergarten through 12th grade music program, starting with music classes for all students from Kindergarten through 5th grades. In 6th through 8th grades, students continue with general music, band, and/or chorus classes, participating in winter and spring concerts and competitions. High school students further explore choral and band options, including chamber singers and jazz band, with opportunities to compete and earn a Performing-Fine Arts Diploma Endorsement.
