IHBAK - Chronic and Emergency Medical Care

In emergency situations involving accident or illness, Falmouth School Department personnel shall undertake all reasonable efforts to provide students with first aid and/or life-sustaining medical care to the best of their ability based on knowledge and training. Falmouth School Department will also seek out the assistance of school medical personnel and, when applicable, contact emergency medical services.

 

For students with documented special health care needs, the nurses of the Falmouth School Department shall develop Individualized Health Plans (IHP) as per the Individual Health Plans Protocol of the Maine Department of Education School Health Manual.

 

For the purpose of this policy, “life-sustaining emergency care” shall be defined as any procedure or intervention applied by appropriately trained personnel of the Falmouth School Department in order to prevent a student who, without such a procedure or intervention, faces an imminent risk of further serious injury and/or death.
