Falmouth Public Schools - Technology Plan - Winter 2006

Falmouth Public Schools has adopted the following vision based on our values and beliefs:

The Falmouth School Department is a K-12 system designed to improve student learning

  • All students benefit from the standards-based system
  • Student learning is based on Maine's Learning Results - both the Guiding Principles and Content Standards

The Falmouth School Department provides a broad-based liberal arts education

  • Comprehensive and challenging academic offerings
  • Clear standards for ethical and responsible behavior
  • Development of habits of mind that further learning
  • Multiple opportunities for learning in the arts and world languages

Student learning is a community effort

  • Strong parent and community participation in education
  • Collaboration with community and local schools
  • Use of technology can support community-school collaboration

Students bring individual experiences, strengths and needs to their schooling

  • Multiple opportunities to learn and demonstrate learning need to be provided
  • Individual student background should guide instruction for that student

Curriculum and instruction is designed to support individual student learning

  • Curriculum is consistent within grade levels and courses
  • Curriculum is coordinated across grade levels
  • Curriculum is based on essential knowledge and skills in all content areas
  • Curriculum is thoughtfully designed and developmentally appropriate
  • Multiple means of support for meeting standards are available for students
  • Use of technology is aligned with curriculum and assessment and reflects best instructional practices

Professional development supports all aspects of the system

  • The process of join inquiry with all stakeholders supports continuous improvement
  • Opportunities for developing content knowledge and pedagogy are created
  • District areas of concentration guide use of time and money
  • Teacher leadership is essential in the system
  • High quality authentic teaching and learning with technology is supported
