10. Steps to Increase Accessibility
Falmouth Public Schools - Technology Plan - Winter 2006
Describe the steps being taken to ensure that all students and teachers have increased access to technology. The description must include how Ed Tech funds, if applicable, will be used to help students in high-poverty and high-needs schools, or in schools identified for improvement or corrective action under Section 1116 of Title I (not applicable to Falmouth); and how the steps taken will ensure that teachers are prepared to integrate technology effectively into curricula and instruction.

For Falmouth, increased access can be accomplished by:

Provide students with the ability to work seamlessly between school and home technology.
  • Provide 24-7 access to laptops in 7th and 8th grade with annual monitoring of laptop program's contribution to student learning.
  • Use data yearly to determine use of an assigned laptop for every student in grades 9 through 12.
  • Provide pen drives and laptops available for checkout and/or rental as needed for students in grades 9 through 12
  • Ensure file servers at all schools are easily accessible from the home computing environment
  • Provide grades 7 through 12 students with email which can be used for sending files between home and school.
  • Educate students on the use of pen drives, file servers, and email attachments.
  • Continue use of Microsoft Office until Open Office for Mac OS X is an easily used alternative.
  • Provide information on education discounts for students on software that is used at school
Strategies to stretch our technology dollars in order to provide for necessary technology
  • Use data to monitor and determine priorities (see 4-Necessary Technology)
  • Use leasing as an option.
  • Buy extended warranties.
  • Set a life cycle for new computers and plan accordingly (see replacement plan)
