Falmouth School Board Policy Sub-Committee and Workshop Meeting Monday, December 6, 2004 1. The meeting was called to order at 6:12 p.m. in the Falmouth High School library. Present were Chairman Beppie Cerf, Linda Cote, Truth Holden, Susan Nevins, Kathy Hillman-Reed, Mark Terison, Student Representatives David Sinnett and Chris Murry, Superintendent George Entwistle, and approximately eight others (Brinn out). 2. Presentation: Ann Chapman of Drummond Woodsum & MacMahon presented a report on her review of the Falmouth School District Policy Manual. She felt there are several old policies that can be eliminated, as they are very broad ‘goal-oriented’ policies from the 1980’s. The approach today is to focus on policies that provide clear guidance on important matters. Ms. Chapman highlighted the major issues and concerns that needed to be addressed such as the required policies and new legal requirements, multiple policies on the same topic, and fragmented policies. She felt this is a great time to be updating the Policy Manual, as the last revision was done in the early 1990s. 3. Discussion: A proposed action plan was presented by Ms. Chapman. Essentially, the plan proposes: A. Create a timetable for addressing required policies; It was suggested that Ms. Chapman meet with the Policy Chair (Susan Nevins) to generate the ‘next steps’ to be taken prior to the January Policy Sub-Committee meeting and to make sure that the work is organized to best make progress on policies reviews. Mrs. Hutton will make a recommendation to the Policy Sub-Committee with regard to her plans for reviewing the Chemical Health Policy at Falmouth High School. 4. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 7:10 p.m. Respectfully submitted, George H. Entwistle 3rd, Ed.D.
