Elementary School Building Committee Minutes
Wednesday, September 26, 2007

1.         Call to Order and Roll Call
The meeting was called to order by Karen Farber at 7:02 p.m.  Committee members in attendance were Karen Boffa, Beppie Cerf, Jerry Davis, George Entwistle, Karen Farber, John Flaherty, Beth Franklin, Jean Gulliver, Andy Hyland, Dan O’Shea, Theresa Pierce, Judy Schneider, Mark Terison, Penny Wheeler-Abbott, and Joe Wrobleski.  Rob Tillotson, Jacques Gagnon and Kerry Green were in attendance from Oak Point. 

2.         Oak Point – update of summer progress:
Mark Terison mentioned the conversation he had with Linda Maule of The Forecaster regarding the site conditions/limitations at Lunt/Plummer-Motz.  He also discussed with her that other sites are being considered, the upcoming public forum and the possible impact of regionalization/consolidation on this project.   

Rob Tillotson reviewed the issues of the existing site and the attempts to utilize the site to fit our program. Space issues and population discussions took place.  The discussion then moved to consolidation issues/state concerns about MSAD 51.  Jean Gulliver mentioned there may be a need for additional inspections/reviews taking into account MSAD 51’s needs. 

There was discussion surrounding the 5th grade students and whether or not the state would allow that grade to be moved back to the elementary school.  Rob also reviewed the site search process:  town owned land, school owned land (superintendent’s office) and other property. 

It was decided that we would contact property owners of sites that had been identified as possible good options for a new school.  Dan O’Shea will handle.

3.         Public Forum Planning
The public forum will take place during the regular School Board Meeting on October 15, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. in Town Council Chambers at the Town Hall.  The forum will be advertised, notices send to parents and community members, and town and school websites will be updated.  Mark Terison will not be able to attend, so Karen Farber will be the Chair that evening.

The next two meetings of this committee will be:

            Tuesday, October 23, 2007
            Thursday, November 15, 2007

5.         Adjourn
The meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
