Falmouth School Board Minutes

Falmouth School Board
Workshop Meeting
Tuesday, September 5, 2006

1.         The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. in the Falmouth High School ATM room.  Present were Chairman Beppie Cerf, Linda Cote, Karen Farber, Beth Franklin, Kathy Hillman-Reed, Scott Lydick, Mark Terison, Superintendent George Entwistle, and approximately 15 others.

2.         Facilities Plan Review – The purpose of this review was to get a larger group of individuals involved in facilities planning up-to-speed as it pertains to the state’s comprehensive planning process of facilities renovations and/or construction.  Additional directed funds from the state have allowed additional project proposals to be approved and we are all so grateful that the Lunt submission was approved.  A close partnership with the state and the D.O.E. will ensure that Falmouth School facilities’ space deficits are clearly identified and that a solution will be designed that will past muster within the government structures and within the community.

Scott Brown (D.O.E.) and consultant Paul Johnson were introduced.  Mr. Brown and Mr. Johnson walked the group through some discussion of the membership of the Ad Hoc Building Committee.

The Board entertained the idea of creating an application process for Advisory Building Committee members who would be selected from applications received.  It was decided that advertisements would be run in both The Forecaster and The Community Leader to solicit volunteer committee members from the community – interested volunteers will be asked to submit a letter of application/interest.

At the September 18, 2006 School Board Meeting, the Board will appoint an Ad Hoc, Advisory Building Committee (additional members may be appointed at a later date).  Mr. Brown and Mr. Johnson spent the bulk of their presentation time walking the group through the 20+ steps of the building process.  A question and answer session followed the presentation.

3.         Sr. Discovery Project – A brief introduction by Allyn Hutton was given.  The intent of this program is to ensure that all seniors are successful.  The Falmouth High School staff will monitor the progress of all students toward meeting the Sr. Discovery Project requirement.  There were a few questions from Board Members for Mrs. Hutton.  Mr. Terison with a second from Mrs. Farber moved Sr. Discovery Project be a requirement for graduation commencing this year.  The motion was approved 7-0.

4.         Adjournment:  Ms. Franklin with a second from Mr. Terison moved the Board adjourn.  The motion passed 7-0 and the meeting adjourned at 9:38 p.m.

                                                                                    Respectfully submitted,

                                                                                    George H. Entwistle 3rd
                                                                                    Secretary
