Falmouth School Board Minutes |
Falmouth School Board
Workshop Meeting,
Monday, February 5, 2007
- The meeting was called to order at 7:01 p.m. in the Falmouth High School ATM room. Present were Chairman Beppie Cerf, Linda Cote, Karen Farber, Beth Franklin, Kathy Hillman-Reed, Scott Lydick, Mark Terison, Student Representatives Rachel Bennett and Stephen Hebson, and Superintendent George Entwistle. Leadership Council Members were in attendance as were approximately 12 staff representatives and members of the public.
- Bullying Survey – Tammy Serra, Guidance Counselor at Plummer-Motz School, presented a bullying survey report summary. Ms. Serra shared a copy of the survey form with Board members and provided an overview of the bullying prevention efforts ongoing at Plummer-Motz School.
- 2007/2008 Calendar, 1st Reading – Mrs. Powers introduced the draft 2007-2008 school year calendar by reviewing the process that is followed in developing the drafts. Forces driving some changes in the calendar include the upcoming Falmouth High School accreditation process (and the faculty’s need for time to complete the significant preparation work required) and placement of the “celebration of teaching” day earlier in the school year to create better opportunity for follow-up to that workshop day. The drafts will be posted on the Falmouth Schools website to allow public input with a Board vote scheduled for February 26, 2007.
- Dr. Entwistle and Mrs. Powers reviewed the Foreign Language proposal and examined, in detail, the two options being brought forth by the Leadership Council. Questions and answers followed involving Board members and members of the public. Discussion involved the French-to-Spanish change and the budget implications of the options presented. The Board determined that they wished to defer making a decision on the direction of Foreign Language until the March budget workshop.
- Adjournment: The Board adjourned at 9:07 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
George H. Entwistle 3rd
Secretary
