Ogden
Morse, now in his fourth year at Falmouth High School, brings
a unique perspective to his teaching—one
from which, it is hoped, his students benefit.
A graduate of Dartmouth College with a B.A. in English,
he comes from a long line of teachers. His father taught
and chaired the English Department at Joel Barlow High School
in Redding, Connecticut, for 38 years. Two of his three sisters
are currently English teachers. His paternal grandmother
and grandfather were teachers. No wonder his dog’s
name is Banquo.
Despite his lineage, Ogden did not enter teaching directly.
Instead, after working as a crisis-communications specialist
in New York City for a few years, he founded, in 1994, Lyceum
Communications, an educational-software company, where he
and his father were the principal creators of Get A Clue®,
one of the leading Web-based vocabulary-development program
in the country. He moved the company to Portland in 1998.
After Lyceum was sold, Ogden founded a new educational software
company, Way Interactive, where he and his collaborators
have created Literary Companion™, a Web-based literature-enhancement
program that won the 2005 Codie™, the most prestigious
award in the software industry.
He manages Way Interactive and teaches simultaneously—a
conscious decision that makes for a busy-but-rewarding professional
life. The experience he has gained working on the business
side of education enhances his teaching; the experience he
gains in the classroom enhances his business.
Ogden and his wife, Sue, live in Falmouth with their son,
Colby and the afore-mentioned Banquo. |
