Attendance Policy for Falmouth High School

Attendance at school is crucial and absences must be avoided in order to insure that students maximize their learning opportunities. State law allows for excused absences for the following reasons only:

1. Personal illness (which may require a doctor's certification)
2. Appointments with health or other professionals which cannot be scheduled outside the school day
3. Religious holiday observations
4. Emergency family situations which are clearly defined by the parent/guardian
5. Planned absences which have been approved in advance
   • Must be approved in advance (state law requirement)
   • For personal or educational purposes
   • Includes family vacations, personal appointments, college visitations
   • LIMITED TO THREE (3) DAYS PER SEMESTER
   • Vacation time is limited to ONCE per school year.
   • Vacation time excused only if accompanying his/her parent
