Organizing
for Success
Organizing for Success means that a
student organizes their:
- Assignment Notebook
- Binders
- basic materials (pencils, pens, ruler, calculator)
so that they are able to function successfully in school.
Organizing for Success
may involve different types of the materials listed above. But each of those
materials is critical for a student to be prepared to attend class.
Assignment Notebook
- Use an assignment notebook that has daily sections for each subject.
- Record
- Daily assignments
- As you complete an assignment, check it off
- If you haven't completely finished an assignment, rewrite
it into the next days assignment section.
- Long term assignments and projects
- Interim due dates
- Those are partial steps to complete long
term assignments or projects
- Significant Events from home
- Record sports and family events so that you
are aware of how they may impact school
- Days and times that you stay with your teachers
(it is a good record to look back on to determine what worked.)
Binders
1. Use the minimum number of binders that you can handle.
- If you can handle one binder and keep all homework and your assignment notebook
in one place, then your chances of misplacing any given item are less.
- If you use two or more binders, use dividers to keep each subject apart.
2. Use sectional dividers to organize each subject.Examples
might be
- Class notes
- Homework
- Tests/Quizzes
However, the sections will change based upon the subject. It may be helpful
to ask a peer or the teacher for guidelines on homw to set up a system for class.
3. Pull out older items every two or three weeks. These can be kept in a speparate
folder at home or in a locker. Don't throw away an item unless you are
positive it will not be needed or referred to in the future.
4. Check daily for loose papers and remove them. Either 3-hole punch them to
fit in, or file them else where.
