Mnemonics are :

Memory Aids

Specifically Mnemonics may be words, sentences, songs or just about anything that helps your memory.

Many students find that they help when studying a series or list of words.

For instance HOMES spells out the Great Lakes (Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie and Superior)

There are several other applications, many which apply to the current 7^th and 8^th grade studies.

Math : definitions for algebra / math fact sentences

Social studies : map studies (especially helpful when working in a pattern) /  rules and names in series as in the succession of the presidency

English : memorizing a presentation /  learning grammar rules

Science : memorizing parts of the periodic table
