Welcome to the O.T. Website! 
Occupational Therapy is a profession that helps individuals achieve what may seem to be insurmountable obstacles, to facilitate successful participation in  their chosen occupations – whether it be a job, activities of daily living, community access, or, being a student!

In the school setting, Occupational Therapy is considered a support service to assist the student, identified through Special Education, in accessing her education – this is per the federal law generally known as IDEA, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.  Other students may be identified through another part of the law, Section 504, wherein the student has a specific medical diagnosis which impacts  her ability to learn in an academic setting.

Following are some examples of O.T. -related  areas of challenge that may impact a student’s education:

• Visual perceptual skills
• Fine motor skills
• Oculomotor, or visual tracking skills
• Balance
• Postural control
• Attention span and task focus
• Coordination
• Pencil control and keyboarding
• Motor Planning
• Organizational skills
• Sensory Processing
• Work Behaviors
• Laterality
• Bilateral motor coordination

Services provided by the Falmouth OT department include:

• Evaluation of referred students
• Writing annual goals and objectives for each student who receives O.T.
• Inservices – to classrooms & staff, which facilitate improved student functioning
• Direct treatment with students
• Consultation with parents, teachers and other related personnel concerning specific students, and programs in general
• Meetings:  PET, team meetings
• Supervising college students as they strive toward  becoming Occupational Therapy professionals
