Cynthia Asherman,OTR/L
Attended 4 years as an OT major at the University of New Hampshire, completed an additional 9 months of 3 internships post graduate, became registered by the National Board of Certification of Occupational Therapy, and has over 25 years experience in the field of occupational therapy. She also has her certification in Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests, based on Jean Ayres’ and subsequent research. She has worked on the Continuing Education Committee of the MeOTA (Maine OT Association) for many years.  She is committed to furthering her understanding of how occupational therapy can help people with various disabilities, and enjoys incorporating many approaches with her students to find success in this quest.

Take advantage of the Spring Warming in Maine, and SPRING into ACTION!

Prizes will be given to Mrs. Asherman’s students who show they are participating 3-5 times per week in one or more of the following categories!  (Check with Mrs. Asherman if you need to substitute different activities than those listed, or, if you need certain materials to work on.)
CATEGORIES:

1.  ACTION!  10 minutes of: Jump rope, ride your bike or scooter, swing, hopscotch, basketball, tennis, volleyball, soccer, kickball, badminton, Frisbee, tag, pogo stick…

2.  FLYING FINGERS!  10 minutes of creative finger use:  musical instruments that use finger movements (flute, guitar, piano, banjo, recorder, etc.), computer keyboard for writing, using correct touch typing method (home row finger positions and reaches), learning and practicing new knots, friendship bracelets, braiding and macramé, sewing cards or lacing cards, Lite Brite, finger puppet shows, practice and use American Sign Language, make sculptures from clay or Sculpey…

3.  PUZZLERS:  10 minutes of:  jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, word-find, connect the dots, find the hidden pictures, Waldo, I SPY, mazes, Highlights Magazine activities…

*Checklist Calendar to bring to OT , the first week of June!  Pick up a blank calendar from Mrs. Asherman when you see her, to take home. Just mark the number of the category/s you worked on, on each day that you participated. For example, if you did activities from categories 1 and 3 on one day, mark 1,3 on that calendar day square. 
*Have your Mom or Dad initial each day, as it is important that they know how hard you are working to achieve your goals in OT, too.  HAVE FUN!
