School Consolidation:

School Consolidation Public Forums for Cumberland, Falmouth, and North Yarmouth:

The Regional Planning Committee has begun meeting to consider and
develop a plan for consolidation between Falmouth and MSAD51. The
Committee is holding two public forums designed to talk about our
initial vision, tasks, and progress to date. Mostly we want to get
feedback from our communities on this work as well as comments about
issues and areas that need consideration as we proceed. Two forums are
currently scheduled and are open to all. These are:

November 13, 7:00 p.m.--Falmouth High School Auditorium
November 27, 6:30 p.m. - Cumberland Town Council Chambers

Both forums will be taped and shared with each respective community's
public access channel for televising.

School Consolidation Information - May 16, 2007

Hello All -

During recent discussions with staff and parents, one common question seems to arise:  How do I contact my Legislators to provide my thoughts and concerns regarding the school administration consolidation plans?

MSMA did a nice job of compiling this information in a recent newsletter.  The link below links to the first 2 pages of this newsletter with all the contact information for the various Legislators.  I hope you find this information helpful.

School Consolidation Update - Feb 2, 2007:

The Education and Cultural Affairs Committee has supplied us with the following link, which has been posted to the Maine Legislature’s home page, giving the most current information about the February 5th public hearing on school regionalization plans - http://www.maine.gov/legis/schreg_feb05/homepage.htm

This site includes the text of alternatives to the Governor's proposal namely LR 1386, LR1326, LD 370, and LD 499, and is supposed to be updated as new information becomes available.  Also note that you will be able to access a live audio feed of the proceedings from this site.

Message to Parents from George H. Entwistle, Superintendent of Schools
Subject:  Governor’s Consolidation Plan

Greetings.
Clearly, there is significant momentum behind the Governor’s School District Consolidation Plan for restructuring the delivery of public education services here in Maine.  For your convenience, we have created a link to a site where we continue to collect relevant school consolidation documents – creating easy access to, for example, the legislative language of the Governor’s proposal, the Brookings Institute report, resolutions from a variety of stakeholder groups, etc.
We have received very short notice about a public forum with the Governor and the Commissioner of Education – I have included the public forum details and the link to the collection of documents below.  I encourage you all to learn as much about this topic as is possible – the legislative activity related to school consolidation appears to be moving on a very fast track.  Please continue to check the Falmouth Schools website for updates.
Best regards.
