Falmouth Elementary School
The Hour of Code, Foodplay and 5th Grade Math Team!
The week of Dec 9 - 15th was very busy at Falmouth Elementary School! It was Computer Science Education Week. We joined students all over the country by participating in an Hour of Code. The Hour of Code was an opportunity for every student to try computer science for one hour. It's an introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code" and show that anyone can learn the basics to be a maker, a creator, an innovator. All students, K-5, took part in hands-on activities and activities on the iPads and in the computer lab.
Also this week our FES Math Team competed in the Southern Maine Elementary Math League Competition at the Holiday Inn by The Bay in Portland. Congratulations to Lena who took first place for individuals at the competition. And more congratulations to our Fifth Grade Team who took Second Place! The team consisted Of Hillary, Lena, Nina, Shruti, John and Shannon. The alternate team was also very strong with members Wade, Matthew H., Sebastian, Carissa, Samar, and Olivia.
In addition, on Friday the FES students were treated to Foodplay, a national award winning theater show that promotes healthy eating and physical activity for kids. The shows were generously funded by an FEF grant.
