WHAT IS PROJECT GRADUATION? Project Graduation began in Maine in 1980 in response to the tragic loss of 18 lives in alcohol and drug related crashes following graduation. Maine’s first Project Graduation was such a success that many other high schools adopted similar programs. Today the term “Project Graduation” describes an illegal substance free graduation celebration sponsored by the community under the supervision of many adult volunteers. Project Graduation invites every student in the graduating class to participate in a fun and safe evening. No admission fee is charged. Frequently this celebration lasts the entire night. Transortation is always provided. Past graduation festivities have included a dance, casino party, bowling, comedy show and a visit to a local soup kitchen to make donations of pasta. The actual events of the evening remain a mystery until the graduation night arrives. Currently the Mystery Tour Committee of Project Graduation has some exciting events planned. WHEN ARE GRADUATION AND PROJECT GRADUATION? The graduation ceremony has been scheduled for Sunday, June 8, 2008 at the Falmouth High School gymnasium. HOW DO WE PAY FOR THIS GRADUATION CELEBRATION? Falmouth has a long-standing history of community support for Project Graduation. Orchestrating an event like this one requires many volunteer hours and contributions. Currently we are raising funds; however, family and community contributions are needed to make this event a success. We anticipate that the actual cost for each student will be about $100. This amount includes food, transportation and entertainment. The Class of 2008 is 154 students. We ask that families of Seniors consider a tax deductible donation in any amount or at:
Remember, all graduates are invited and encouraged to attend without regard to contributions. Family support has been wonderful to date. Many thanks to those parents who have already sent in donations or given of their time! Area businesses have also helped to sponsor Project Graduation events. If interested in helping defray the cost of Project Graduation, please contact us.
