During the month of December,
Lunt School is implementing a school-wide “Links
of Caring” project. Throughout the month of
December, classes will focus on acts of kindness or caring. This
might mean that the class makes thank you cards for staff members
at Lunt, or perhaps students offer to help out with clean up in
the cafeteria, etc… Also, individual children might do something
nice for someone else in the class. Each time an act of kindness
occurs, a paper link is added to a chain and is hung in the hallway.
We are trying to get as many “Links of Caring” as possible
so that all of the classrooms at Lunt School can become connected
with the paper chain.
All teachers
have a supply of links to hand out when they spot an act of caring.
Bags of links are also available in the hallways so that any staff
member can hand them out if a child is spotted being kind. Children
can nominate others for links, but students cannot nominate themselves
for a link. You have to be on the “look-out” for others
who are doing a great job. Student names are written on the links
when they are presented to the child.
Parent volunteers
have generously cut the links for us. We are using red and white
as colors for the links, since the Six Pillars of Character color
for “Caring” is red.
We are looking forward to this being a very fun, unifying activity
for our students!
Continuing into February with the "Chain of Respect"
Our pillar of character focus for February was "Respect", so instead of taking down our "Links of Charing" when December ended, we added to it with yellow and white links for our "Chain of Respect". Whenever staff spotted students demonstrating respectful behaviors, they were given links to add to the "Chain of Respect". Our primary goal was to encourage respectful behaviors in our school as we tried to link together as many classrooms as we could with the chains.
