At Lunt School,
we believe that school climate and wellness are interconnected.
School climate affects staff and student wellness, and staff and
student wellness affects school climate. Both need to be attended
to and fostered in order to maintain a warm, welcoming, healthy,
peaceful learning environment for our students and staff. The Lunt
School Climate and Wellness Team was formed to discuss and develop
ongoing, school-wide activities and programs around these areas.
Our
priority goals for the 2007-2008 school year are as follows:
- Continue to promote better fitness and health among students.
- Continue to encourage respect, responsibility and citizenship by expanding Lunt's recycling program.
Our
priority goals for the 2006-2007 school year were as follows:
- Establish
a more structured, outside exercise period for second grade students
(before lunch), and for first graders (after lunch).
Progress:
Barely
a month after our first School Climate and Wellness team meeting,
and a program to meet this goal has already been developed and
implemented. Spearheaded by physical education teacher, Jenn
Doe, first and second grade students participate in
the Mileage Club walking program during their
exercise time before or after lunch. Click

- Establish
a school-wide character education program, based on common values,
and common language.
Progress:
With
the School Climate and Wellness Team's recommendation, Lunt
School has chosen CHARACTER COUNTS! Six Pillars of Character
for Lunt's new, school-wide character education initiative.
Our hope is that the Six Pillars of Character language, traits
and values will eventually become a natural part of the school's
culture, and will be interwoven throughout every classroom,
every special, every aspect of the child's learning experience
at Lunt. We had our launched our Six Pillars of Character efforts
during class meetings in November. Click

- Provide
wellness activities for staff throughout
the year
Progress:
School
Nurse, Sue Raatikainen and Phys Ed teacher,
Jenn Doe, got staff's Fall off on a healthy
start - offering a health and fitness activity to encourage
exercise, water intake and eating fruits and vegetables. Click
